What is Streptococcus thermophilus?
Streptococcus thermophilus is a Gram positive, facultative anaerobic spherical bacterium belonging to the Streptococcus genus of the Streptococcus family. It is named after its tolerance to high temperatures (optimal growth temperature of 40-45 ℃).

It is a recognized safe probiotic, often paired with Lactobacillus bulgaricus, used for fermenting dairy products such as yogurt and cheese. It can break down lactose to produce lactic acid, improve product flavor and texture, regulate gut microbiota, and aid digestion. It is widely used in the food industry and probiotic fields.
